If you are on the fence and wondering if newborn photography worth it?
How about an inside view of a newborn shoot to help you decide?
Meet Cora, the adorable newborn daughter of Kerry and Emma Dawson-Jones. This lovely family came to our studio for their newborn photography. They wanted to capture Cora’s precious moments in her first few weeks of life. Ashton was their photographer and she had a wonderful time creating some beautiful portraits for them.
Starting the Newborn Shoot
Ashton started this newborn photography session on our posing table, where she used a neutral colour scheme to highlight Cora’s features. She added some cute accessories, such as headbands, a bunny, and a balloon that said “I’ve arrived”. And also incorporated some personal items that the mums brought along, such as their own teddies and a blanket that Emma knitted during her pregnancy.
We love working on the posing table because this part of the session is really focussed on your baby in all their amazing detail. This is where we capture those beautiful wrinkles that will soon be gone forever. Those tiny fingers and toes, the curl of their hair, and all their precious newborn features that in a few short weeks, will have disappeared as baby grows.
And including items such as Kerry and Emma’s teddies and the blanket Emma made, give the images an additional layer of sentimentality. A newborn photoshoot is all about telling the beginning of the story of your beautiful family.
Time for Newborn Props
Next, we moved to our mini bed set up, where we introduced some pink tones to match the blossom backdrop. We also used some dandelion clocks to symbolise wishes, hopes and dreams. We took some shots from different angles, showing Cora’s birth details with date blocks and a clock.
Bringing in Colour
Then, we switched to our round basket, where we added some yellow accents to the palette. Yellow is a family favourite colour, and it suited Cora perfectly. We used some loose petals, yellow flowers, and a yellow wrap to create a cozy and cheerful scene. Ashton posed Cora in multiple ways, both wrapped and unwrapped. Giving Kerry and Emma plenty of choices to choose from with each set up.
After that, we tried our giant bowl set up, where we added some purple hues to the mix. Cora was very comfortable being naked, so we took off her wrap and let her snuggle in the soft cushioning of the bowl. We used a flower hoop as a prop, and changed the pink flowers to purple ones. We took some shots with and without a headband.
Family Portraits
Finally, Ashton ended with a special portrait of Cora in her mums’ hands. This was a great way to show how tiny and precious she was, and to include her parents in a photo. Baby Cora’s mums’ were not ready to face the camera yet, but they still wanted to have a memory of this moment. So this is a perfect way to get them into a portrait. We converted this image to black and white for a striking contrast.
Cora was an amazing model throughout the session. She was very calm and relaxed, thanks to the white noise and heat mat that we use in our studio. Baby loved being swaddled and cuddled by her mums. She posed like a pro, and gave us some adorable expressions.
So Was Getting Newborn Photography Worth It?
Here is what Kerry and Emma said about their experience:
“We loved how relaxed the session was and how patient you were with Cora, and how easily you managed to settle her. You just can’t get this time back, and you’ve captured so many moments for us. Yes it really is worth getting newborn photography!”
Thank you Kerry, Emma, and Cora for choosing us as your photographers! Ashton loved every minute of your session.
Kerry and Emma have joined our Silver Milestone collection so we will be seeing them again soon when Cora reaches her next milestone. The wall’s of their home are going to be a stunning gallery of the story of their precious journey with Cora.
