Alice and Austin’s Newborn Photography

By 2nd July 2023Studio Chit Chat

Welcoming a newborn into the world is a momentous occasion for any family. It’s a time filled with joy, wonder, and, always, a few challenges.

For Alice and Austin, their newborn photography session turned out to also be a bit of a challenge. Their beautiful baby girl was quite unsettled and constantly searched for her mother’s loving embrace.

However, with a thoughtful approach, and patience, this newborn photo shoot was transformed into a heart-warming success story. The results were stunning! Family images and beautiful portraits of their baby daughter that will be cherished for many years to come.

Setting the Stage:

Everything is ready in our cosy Lancaster baby photography studio. And Jemma eagerly awaited the arrival of another lovely family for their newborn portrait session. New Mummy Alice, was bringing her little bundle of joy. She was excited to capture these early memories. Portraits that would forever commemorate their baby daughter’s first days.

A Rocky Start:

As soon as the session began though, it became evident that baby was feeling unsettled. The baby girl clung to her mother’s arms. She would cry every time she was gently placed on the soft, cushioned props. Everything was too unknown for this little guest and she needed the security of her mother’s embrace. But, instead of becoming discouraged, Jemma recognised an opportunity to create something unique and meaningful.

Mum and Daughter Bond:

Embracing the moment. Jemma seized the chance to capture the heartfelt connection between mother and child. Rather than fighting against baby’s need to stay close to her mother, they would embraced it. So Jemma began photographing the tender moments shared between them. As a result the images showcased the unconditional love and warmth between this mother and daughter.

Incorporating the Familiar:

Determined to create a more settled atmosphere for the rest of their portraits, Jemma decided to try a different approach. And so the decision was made to pause the session, and invite the family back to the studio another day. For their next visit they would be armed with some items from home. Things that would smell familiar and give baby an added sense of safety and security. And it also meant that baby’s daddy Austin could come with them. So full family portraits could be captured as well.

A Touch of Home:

When the family returned to our Lancashire studio, they brought along a soft, cosy blanket from their own bed. The blanket was perfect because it carried the familiar scent of their home. This meant it was a comforting reminder of baby’s safe haven. Jemma set up the posing table with this blanket hidden just under the background that Alice and Austin had chosen. And the blanket worked like magic. Baby visibly relaxed, she stopped crying, and became the calm and happy baby that Alice and Austin knew from home.

Gorgeous Family Images:

With baby now content and at ease, the true magic of the session unfolded. Firstly Jemma captured the beauty of their family bonds. Creating timeless images that celebrated their connection. The parent’s love for their newborn daughter shone through each photograph. Jemma captured fleeting moments of joy and tenderness that would be cherished for years to come.

Daddy and Daughter:

Secondly she focussed on Austin. With Daddy at the newborn shoot, it was the perfect opportunity to create some Daddy and Daughter images. So Jemma set to work exploring this special bond. Creating a collection to complement the early images she created of Mummy and baby.

Beautiful Portraits of Baby Daughter:

Thirdly Jemma turned her focus to capturing beautiful solo portraits of their precious baby daughter. With the familiar scent of home surrounding her, this little one felt safe and secure and as a result, she happily posed for Jemma. Through the lens, Jemma captured her delicate features, tiny hands, and adorable expressions, ensuring that these early memories would be treasured forever. Above all, creating photographs to melt Mummy and Daddy’s hearts!

Alice and Austin’s Response:

“We’re so Fortunate that Jemma could see baby not settling as an opportunity. We will cherish these beautiful photos of baby and mummy forever. And to get to come back so that baby’s daddy could come along too. Thank goodness we did this as it meant we could get the gorgeous family photos, daddy and baby and baby alone too.

We couldn’t be happier with how they have turned out and looking forward to displaying them in our home. Thank you for persevering with us and making us feel so comfortable, we will definitely be back!
Thank you again x”
