Maternity photography is more than just taking pictures; it’s a celebration of this special, fleeting moment in your life. And it is incredibly empowering, you have never looked this amazing! Jane, with her love for playing with light, will ensure that your maternity session is a truly unique experience and she promises to make you feel like a Goddess.
How Long do Maternity Photos Take?
So, how long does a maternity photoshoot take at PhotoBaby? While the duration may vary among studios, PhotoBaby recommends scheduling your session around 30 weeks into your pregnancy. At this stage, your baby bump is beautifully round, and you’re hopefully not feeling too tired. The full shoot lasts about an hour and a half, giving you with about an hour of portrait time. If that feels like too much for you, PhotoBaby also offers a mini session, with around forty minutes of portrait time.
Ashleigh’s Maternity Photo Shoot
Now, let’s step behind the scenes of Ashleigh Casson’s maternity photoshoot to get a glimpse of what happens during a session. Ashleigh arrives, and Jane welcomes her with a friendly chat. She wants to know what Ashleigh has brought with her and what she wants from the session. Every maternity session at PhotoBaby begins with this personalised conversation to ensure we have a clear understanding of your desires.
Maternity photography is all about telling the story of your pregnancy. So we always encourage clients to bring along personal items like scan photos or baby booties to enhance the narrative. In Ashleigh’s case, she brought a variety of fabulous outfits and even a mood board for inspiration.
Starting on White
Jane starts the session with a simple white background, gradually incorporating different props such as a high stool and a low box. Ashleigh, being a singer and accustomed to being photographed, is at ease in front of the camera. However, PhotoBaby understands that not everyone is, and they are more than happy to guide and help clients with posing.
Silhouettes
Jane wants to try out a new idea during Ashleigh’s session, so she experiments with a sheer curtain backdrop, creating softly muted yet stunning maternity portraits. The experiment is a success! Silhouettes highlighting Ashleigh’s pregnant figure follow, adding a touch of drama (Ashleigh has asked us just to show her clothed portraits though).
Dark Background
Then they transition to a black background for the final stage of the shoot. This gives very striking results and is especially effective for more intimate portraits. Braver clients will often pose for this element of the shoot in underwear or fabric drapes. Jane loves to backlight her clients, resulting in truly magical and intimate portraits.
What to Wear?
Although Ashleigh brought a stunning collection of dresses, it is more normal that our pregnant clients feel they have nothing suitable to wear. The studio offers an array of dresses for clients to choose from, ensuring everyone feels comfortable, confident and utterly stunning during the session.
