Carving Out Me Time – Recharge for Business and Family

By 20th February 2024Studio Chit Chat

Running a small business is very much a kin to having a young family. There is always so much to do – more than you will ever have time to do. The more you nurture, the more they grow, but the more they grow, the more you are needed! Switching off is always tricky, but sometimes you just have to recharge those batteries!

If we let ourselves burn out, we are no use to anyone! So we need to make sure we are taking some time to give ourselves a boost. And it seems that boost can come in all manor of guises.

Special Guest

In a couple of weeks time we have a French boy coming to stay with us as part of my son’s French exchange. So it’s finally time to get the spare room ready for guests! This became my dreaded half term job as I had been putting it off for an eternity. But surprise, surprise,  I really enjoyed myself!

The room has an old chair that has been around since I was little. It’s been hiding in the corner, and I’ve had this grand revamping plan for many years now. A plan that I never thought I had enough time for. But the last few days were all set aside for this room, so I got to it. And it was so much easier to do than I had anticipated!

Time for a Revamp

I wish I’d taken a picture of the chair before I started, but I’m sure you can imagine – dark wood, torn and moth-eaten seat with all the stuffing falling out.

And now voila! Well nearly! I have accidentally put my finger prints into the wet paint (see top right). So it will need a bit of a polish up, but that can wait. And Dan isn’t so sure about the gold bit, but I think it is great fun!

Take Some You Time

So what’s the point of this blog? Just to remind you that it is important to give yourself time for you. It won’t just happen. You have to be proactive and carve it out. Seize your day!

Have a little think about what you need to get yourself back on top form. DIY might not be your thing, but when is the last time you allowed yourself to sink into a good book? Or hook up with your girl friends? Get your diary out and if needs be, book some babysitting. I promise it will do you the world of good!

And as for the chair and the room, maybe it seems like a funny bit of R and R, but I’m getting a lot of joy out of seeing the spare room finally looking nice, and it’s a relief to know we are ready for our visitor. My batteries are most definitely recharged. And the chair has a fabulous new lease of life. Perhaps it will even get a debut visit to the studio later in the year when we have a blue theme.

Now back to it, it’s time to get the Easter sets built and polish up on my French!

And if you fancy visiting us this Easter, just fill in the form.
