We all know our families are growing, but recently it has been all too apparent in my household!
Shoes
This week when I needed to pop outside, I slipped my son’s shoes and was amazed to find they were too big for me! He is nine and has been ‘borrowing’ my trainers for a couple years now even though I had supposed they were really too big for him. He got new shoes the other day, sized five and a half and I’m a five, so this was the first time I had reversed the trend. My baby’s feet are bigger than mine, it’s almost hard to believe he ever fitted his little pirate shoes.
My hubbie is tall and so are my children. Someday in the not too distant future I’m pretty sure will be the smallest person in our household. Having them all towering above me is a weird thought. I’m looking forward to being able to borrow my daughter’s shoes though. I will have to play closer attention to when her size nears mine.
As well as growing in height, my children are growing in wonderful confidence. It was my birthday the other day and my children took it upon themselves to spoil me. My son melted my heart by writing me this poem.
Mummy
Is amazing
Gives me cuddles
Is the very best
Means a lot to me
Is my very very favourite person
I love you to pizzas, kiss, kiss!
I couldn’t resist showing this off – proud Mummy moment!
Cake
And my daughter spoilt us all by baking a beautiful cake all by herself. She came home from school, dug out her cupcake recipe, doubled the measurements and got on with it. I could have burst, I was so overwhelmed with how special my children made my birthday.
These little people come into our lives and before we know it they will be heading off out into the world. Seeing the independence my children are developing, I’m excited to meet the people they will become. They have a world of possibility ahead of them.
One of my daughter’s current ambitions is to be an ice cream lady. We were chatting about this dream the other day and I pointed out that she didn’t need to wait until she is a grownup to make ice cream. We researched ice cream makers and she counted out her piggy bank savings and ordered one. Making ice cream is not as easy as they make out though. She’s had a few attempts so far but still without success. She hasn’t given up, but becoming a vet has snuck into the lead in her ambitions league.
Confidence
Whatever direction my children take their lives, I hope to equip them with the confidence to aim high and the will to do it well. I want them to know they can do anything they set their minds to. Confidence really is King in this world and I think kindness should be Queen. If they merge this combo in everything they do, I don’t think they can go wrong.
The world is their oyster and it is fat and juicy and ready to say hello!
