Autumn Location Photo Shoot

By 4th November 2017Studio Chit Chat

We have really made the most of Lancaster’s beautiful surroundings this year hosting location photo shoots on the Barrows at Heysham, up around the Priory, Williamson’s Park and the beautiful Crook O Lune. I love the excuse to venture out from the studio and it is a great way to give our Milestone clients a wide variety of portrait styles in their annual collections.

This mild autumn has meant we are still finding opportunities to get out and about and I thought I would use this week’s blog to show you a snap shot of Verity Craig’s final Milestone session up at the Crook O Lune.

Verity joined us last year for a maternity portrait session, and like many of my clients she stayed on to enjoy our Milestones program, Coming back for newborn, six month and her baby’s first year milestones. It has been a really lovely experience to record her third baby’s first year with his siblings.

Autumn Location Photo Shoot

Despite a promising forecast, we found the weather to be damp and drizzly on the morning of our shoot. But nothing says autumn like brollies and wellies so we decided to go for it all the same. Thankfully the Crook O Lune offers lots of cover so we just had to get a little more creative about where we choose for our shots.

We set off for a walk through the trees, kicking leaves and creating portraits as we went. It’s important to keep the kids happy so the portraits come naturally. I often introduce games or even find myself singing songs to the little ones. There’s no room for being shy, I just have to go with what ever we need to get the image.

Natural Features

The arch of this branch made an ideal natural frame for a family portrait on our autumn location photo shoot. Natural features such as this are one of the reasons why I love using the Crook O Lune for photo shoots. The place has so much to offer within a small area. We need everything nice and close so we don’t have to ask our little clients to do too much walking.

Family Fun

Verity really wanted this autumn location photo shoot to show family fun. So we had to get in a leaf throwing shot. We had great fun gathering and throwing the leaves. We had quite a few takes, and quite a few leaves here there and everywhere. The kids thought it was wonderful!

The star of our photo shoot was very taken with the crunchy leaves. He loved it when his brothers started piling them on him.

Natural Portraits

We even found time to squeeze in a visit to the river. There I was able to create some really natural family portraits on our autumn location photo shoot. Everyone was focused on the river and playing and for a little while they forgot all about me.

No autumn location photo shoot would be complete without some puddle shots, and luckily we found one on our travels. Perfect for a final family portrait and the kids loved it.

Finished Work

Verity and her family have chosen to make a stunning wall art to tell the story of their adventure. The finished result is gorgeous and I hope they get many, many years of pleasure from it. A beautiful finished piece to mark the end of their first year as a complete family.

I always get a little bit sad at this point, having to say good bye to a client. Hopefully Verity and her family will find an excuse to come back and see me again soon. x
