This weekend felt a little bit special.
It was our last big adventure with my sister before she heads back to Australia. She came home to say goodbye to our lovely Auntie Catherine, and it has reminded us all just how precious time really is.
When you know a chapter is coming to an end, you suddenly want to fill every page.
So that’s exactly what we did.

A Father’s Day Adventure
Father’s Day gave us the perfect excuse for a mini break.
We packed our bags and headed off to Newcastle and Beamish for a couple of days of family fun.
If you’ve never visited Beamish, it really is magical.
Think of it as a giant time machine.
You can hop on a tram, catch a vintage bus, or stroll between villages and farmsteads. Each area is set in a different period of history, with costumed characters ready to share stories from the past.
For a few hours, it feels like you’ve travelled back in time.
Everyone Had a Favourite
My dad absolutely loved the older parts of Beamish.
He spent time chatting to the pigs and enjoying a tankard of ale. Safe to say he was in his element.
In fact, the oldest areas were everyone’s favourites.
I’m not entirely sure why.
Perhaps it was the atmosphere. The softer light. The sense of stepping into another world.
There was something wonderfully cosy about them.
The idea of Man Traps was not so cozy though!
A Different Side of the 1950s
I found the 1950s section fascinating.
It’s a decade that is often remembered through rose-tinted glasses.
New inventions were appearing in homes. Fridges, cookers and all sorts of gadgets were making life easier.
Yet post-war rationing didn’t end until 1954.
Beamish has recreated a street of council houses from the era, alongside homes for police officers.
Compared with the Victorian houses, everything felt much simpler and more practical.
The allotments, however, were bursting with life.
It was a reminder that every generation has its challenges, even during times we now look back on fondly.

The Little Things Matter Most
Over the weekend we rode a merry-go-round.
We travelled on vintage buses.
We walked thousands of steps.
We shared a giant knickerbocker glory.
And yes, we ate far too many sweets.
Nothing particularly extraordinary.
Yet somehow those are often the moments that stay with us the longest.
Dad checking out the old radios and reminiscing about when he and his brother used to play with one.
Filling the Memory Bank
As I sat reflecting on the weekend, I realised how much these little adventures matter.
Photos help us remember faces.
They remind us of places.
Most importantly, they bring back feelings.
The laughter. The conversations. The people we love.
Our very first visit to Beamish was with my Auntie Catherine, which made this trip even more meaningful.
The memories felt a little sweeter.
A little more precious.
That’s one of the reasons I love what we do here at the studio.
Babies grow.
Children change.
Families evolve.
Life moves quickly.
Photographs can’t stop time, but they can help us hold onto the moments that matter most.
And sometimes, years later, a single image can transport you right back to a day that you never want to forget.
