Bringing your tiny new human in for their first photoshoot is such a special moment. It’s also completely normal to feel a little unsure about what you need to pack. The good news? You don’t need much at all.
In fact, the less you bring, the more relaxed the whole experience tends to feel.
Your newborn session is designed to be calm, cosy, and completely taken care of. Think of it as a little pause in your busy new-parent world. A chance to sit down, breathe, and soak it all in while we capture those fleeting early days.
So, what should you bring?
Your baby (of course!)
That’s the most important thing. Everything else is just a bonus. We’ll guide you through the session, gently posing and soothing your baby as we go. There’s no pressure for them to “perform” — we work entirely at their pace.
Plenty of feeds
Whether you’re breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or doing a mix of both, having enough milk on hand is really helpful. Newborn sessions often include pauses for feeding, as a full tummy keeps baby settled and sleepy. If you’re bottle feeding, bringing a little extra than you think you’ll need can be a lifesaver.
Nappies and wipes
We promise we’ve seen it all, and yes… accidents will happen! A well-stocked changing bag means we can keep everything flowing smoothly without any stress. Bring more nappies than you think you’ll need — just in case.
Comfort items
A special blanket will be very useful – especially if it has been used and smells of home – bring one that you are happy to appear in your portraits, also feel free to bring along a dummy, or comforter. Sometimes familiar scents and textures can help your baby settle. That said, we also have a studio full of beautifully soft wraps and blankets ready to use.
Simple outfits (optional)
Newborn photography is all about keeping things soft, natural, and timeless. Most of the time, babies are photographed wrapped or in minimal outfits, so there’s no need to pack lots of clothes. If there’s a special outfit you love, bring it along and we’ll see if we can include it.
Sentimental Objects
These portraits are your story, so if you have something special that you would love to bring along to be part of your story, please do – anything goes! If you are unsure, have a chat with us!
Something comfortable for you
You’ll likely be sitting back and relaxing for much of the session, so wear something cosy. The studio is kept nice and warm for your baby, so light layers work best.
Now for the important bit…
What you don’t need to bring
You don’t need to bring props, outfits, or styling pieces. We’ve carefully curated everything in the studio to create a soft, cohesive look. From wraps and textures to tiny details, it’s all ready and waiting.
You also don’t need to worry if your baby is unsettled, awake, or feeding more than usual. That’s completely normal. We allow plenty of time for cuddles, feeds, and soothing. There’s no rush here.
And most importantly…
You don’t need to bring perfection.
Newborn sessions aren’t about perfectly posed moments. They’re about real connection. Tiny fingers curling around yours. Sleepy stretches. Little expressions that change in a heartbeat.
Those are the moments you’ll want to remember.
If you’re ever unsure before your session, just ask. We’re always here to help guide you, reassure you, and make sure you feel completely comfortable.
Because this isn’t just a photoshoot.
It’s the beginning of your story.
