Colour or Neutrals? The Most Important Choice Isn’t the Styling

Trends Fade. Your Story Doesn’t.

Photography Trends Are Always Changing

I saw a post the other day about how photography has changed over the years.

The photographer shared images from previous years that were full of bright colours, bold props and vibrant setups. Alongside them were their more recent photographs, styled with soft neutrals, creams and earthy tones.

There’s no doubt that neutral styling has become increasingly popular over the last few years.

However, it made me realise something important.

What was being compared wasn’t really photography at all.

It was styling.

Colour Isn’t Out

Photography trends come and go. One year, bright colours are everywhere. The next, soft neutrals dominate social media feeds. Before long, something completely different becomes the new must-have look.

That’s the nature of trends.

Yet colour hasn’t disappeared, and neutral tones haven’t suddenly become the only way to create beautiful photographs.

The real question isn’t whether a session should be colourful or neutral.

The real question is whether it reflects you.

Your Family Is Not A Trend

Babies don’t fit neatly into trends.

Families don’t either.

Every family has its own personality, its own story and its own way of seeing the world. Some people are naturally drawn to soft, calming colours. Others love bold shades, fun details and plenty of personality.

Neither approach is right or wrong.

What matters is choosing something that feels authentic.

Years from now, nobody will be looking at your photographs and thinking about what happened to be fashionable at the time. Instead, they’ll see the people they love and remember the moments they shared together.

That’s what gives photographs their value.

The PhotoBaby Approach

At PhotoBaby, we don’t believe every session should look the same.

Rather than following the latest trend, we focus on getting to know the families who visit us. We want to hear your story, understand what matters to you and create images that feel personal.

For some families, that means soft, natural styling.

For others, it means colour, character and a little bit of fun.

Whatever your preference, our goal remains exactly the same.

To create photographs that feel like you.

Your Baby Takes Centre Stage

Backdrops, props and colour palettes all have their place, but they are never the star of the show.

Your baby is.

Those tiny details that make them unique are what deserve to be remembered. The cheeky grin, the curious expression, the way they fit perfectly into your arms right now – those are the moments you’ll treasure forever.

A beautiful photograph should celebrate who your child is at this stage of their life.

Styling should support that story, not overshadow it.

What Makes A Photograph Timeless?

Timeless photography isn’t about choosing neutral colours over bright ones.

It isn’t about following what everyone else is doing.

And it certainly isn’t about recreating the latest social media trend.

Timeless photography captures genuine connection, real emotion and authentic personalities. It tells a story that still feels meaningful years later because it reflects the people in the photograph, not the fashion of the moment.

That’s the heart and soul of PhotoBaby.

We don’t follow trends.

We follow you.

Tell us what matters to your family, share your story and we’ll help tell it through beautiful photographs, with your baby centre stage.

Because trends will always come and go.

Individuality is yours to keep forever.
