Your 3-Month Baby Photo Shoot: Questions Parents Often Ask

By 13th March 2026Knowledge Centre

At around three months old, babies change so quickly. One week they’re tiny and sleepy. The next they’re wide-eyed and curious. A 3-month photo shoot is a lovely way to capture this stage. Those little expressions. The growing personality. The way they look at you like you’re their whole world. We class this stage as Nearly New.

Parents often ask us lots of questions about these sessions. So here are some of the most common ones, answered.

Why have a photo shoot at three months?

Three months is a beautiful stage to photograph. Babies are starting to wake up to the world. They are often more alert and expressive than they were as newborns.

You’ll notice more eye contact. Little smiles appear more often. Some babies even try their first giggles.

It’s also a lovely time to capture those gorgeous chubby cheeks and tiny rolls. These features change quickly as babies grow.

Many parents who had a newborn shoot love coming back at three months. It shows just how much their little one has grown.

What if my baby isn’t smiling yet?

Don’t worry at all. Every baby develops at their own pace.

Some babies smile lots at this stage. Others prefer serious little expressions. Both are absolutely perfect.

Our photographers know how to gently interact with babies. We make funny noises. We chat to them. Sometimes we even sing a little!

Often those little smiles appear naturally when baby is relaxed and comfortable.

And if they don’t? That’s okay too. Those thoughtful baby faces are just as adorable.

What does a 3-month baby photo shoot look like?

These sessions are relaxed and baby-led.

Your baby may lie comfortably on soft blankets. We might capture tummy time moments too. Some babies are starting to lift their heads at this stage, which creates beautiful photographs.

We keep everything simple and natural. Soft colours. Gentle lighting. Lots of cuddly textures.

We also love capturing parent and baby moments. Those little snuggles. The way your baby fits perfectly in your arms.

These are often the photographs families treasure the most.

What should my baby wear?

Simple outfits work best.

Soft knitted rompers. Neutral baby grows. Little cardigans. These photograph beautifully.

Avoid outfits with large logos or bright patterns. They can distract from your baby’s lovely expressions.

If you’re unsure, don’t worry. Our studio wardrobe has some gorgeous pieces you can use.

We’re always happy to help you choose something that will look perfect in photos.

What if my baby gets upset?

Babies have their own little rhythms. Sometimes they need a cuddle. Sometimes they need a feed.

And that’s absolutely fine.

We allow plenty of time during the session. There is no rush. If baby needs a break, we simply pause and let them settle.

Our studio is designed to feel calm and cosy. Parents often say their baby relaxes very quickly here.

Can parents be in the photos too?

Absolutely. And we always encourage it.

Many parents initially say they only want photos of their baby. But years later, the photographs they treasure most are the ones they are in.

Your baby will love seeing those images one day. The way you held them. The way you looked at them.

You don’t need fancy outfits. Simple, soft colours work beautifully.

And don’t worry if you feel a little nervous. We’ll gently guide you so everything feels natural.

When should I book?

Around three to four months is usually the perfect time.

If your baby is starting to smile and enjoy interaction, it’s a great stage to capture.

These sessions are especially popular with families who are part of our milestone photography journeys.

Before you know it, your baby will be rolling, crawling and taking those first wobbly steps. Each stage is special.

And a 3-month photo shoot helps you hold on to this beautiful moment, just a little longer.
