A Photo Shoot for Every Season – A Snap Shot of the Year

By 16th December 2017Studio Chit Chat

One of the wonderful things about being a creative is all the work you have made is there for you to look back over. I find a real satisfaction in doing that at this time of year. Seeing what I’ve created and how my work has progressed. It really helps to decide on what to focus on next as I move forward on my creative journey. This blog post is a snap shot of the year. I’ve looked through the orders that we have had from clients and picked a favourite photo shoot from each month. There could have had a lot more, but I’ve been strict and gathered a variety to show what we’ve been up to.

January

maternity photo shoot

Faye Ozol’s Bump Portrait:

I really love how the light has caught her hair and bump. I especially play with the light during maternity sessions and almost paint my models with the light.

February

Kelly Chouoarton’s Newborn Photo Shoot:

I’ve really started playing around with how I create family portraits this year. For this portrait, everyone stripped off and got on the floor. It’s like a family jigsaw.

March

Emma Birk’s Maternity Photo Shoot:

It’s never a dull day at the studio. We go from creating cozy cuddly baby portraits to powerful maternity portraits like this. I love the drama of it, and its amazing the effects you can create with a bit of fabric.

April

Sunitha’s Baby and Grandma Portrait:

When Sunitha arrived with her Grandma in traditional Indian dress I got very excited about what we might create. I’ve played with the light again in this portrait and I love how it highlights Grandma and baby. It could almost be natural light coming from a window.

May

Ann Westcott’s First Year Photo Shoot:

Her cheeky daughter had a wonderful time playing pee-po with the fabric. The colour of  her outfit with the grey of the background and props works beautifully.

June

Victoria Crossman’s Six Month Photo Shoot:

Victoria brought her wedding dress and vale to the portrait session. As far as I am concerned, one of the best baby portrait combos in the world is white fluff or texture and a beautiful naked baby, so this took my love of white to a whole new level. I created a gorgeous collection of the two of them playing under the vale and this was one of Victoria’s favourites.

July

Mother and Baby photo shoot
Cat Patha’s Six Month Photo Shoot:

Cat came to the studio with a very clear idea of what she wanted to create and I love that she was brave enough to take her clothes off. Clothes so often get in the way! Listening to new Mummy’s that come to the studio, we are way too hard on ourselves and our body image. It shocks me how many beautiful women simply can’t see how gorgeous they are and won’t forgive their wobbly bits – this needs to be a blog post of it’s own so watch this space.

August

Pooch and Baby photo shoot

Amanda Rigg’s Baby and Pooch Photo Shoot:

We have had quite a few puppies in the studio this year and a lot of giggles with the chaos that ensues. The portraits we’ve created as a result though have been awesome and I love this portrait of Amanda’s brood and their toys.

September

Rosalyn Whittam’s Cake Smash:

We had a cake smash almost every day this September, that’s a lot of cake! This little man did not like his sister’s eating his though. What a classic, I think I will always giggle when I look at this portrait.

October

Carol Cook’s Location Photo Shoot:

The weather has been amazing this year and we have been out on location so many times. Carol’s session was text book perfect. We met at the end of the day when the sun was low and it outlined them beautifully. We had this gorgeous romantic setting and Carol’s daughter’s cheeky personality just stole the show.

November

Georgia Donaldson’s First Birthday Photo Shoot:

Mummy and daughter matching fairy outfits. Georgia came and did Bump and Beyond with us, enjoying a maternity, newborn, six month and first birthday session with us. This portrait is a gorgeous way to celebrate her first year with her daughter. Love it!

December

newborn photo shoot

Mike Woolfall’s Newborn Photo Shoot:

Just a week old and snug and curled up in the fur. We only need a few simple elements to make a perfect newborn portrait, and they are all here. And the beauty of the newborn portrait is that this really is a moment in time captured. This little bundle will be very different already, just a few weeks later.

So there we go, a snap shot of 2017 at the studio. We’ve just a few more sessions left before we close for Christmas, and then we’ve got a whole new year to go at and get creative with. Maybe see you next year? x
